In "Crocuses in Oak Forest", I've painted a cherished memory shared with my dear nephew. We had a walk through an oak forest, at the begining of march, and to our delight, we stumbled upon a carpet of blue and purple crocuses. His tiny hands overflowed with the delicate blooms, his laughter filling the crisp air.
The air was still cool, but the sun was determined, encouraging the rebirth of life in the forest. I can still hear the crackling sound of branches beneath our feet, the rustling of both dry and dewy leaves, and I can still sense the forest's promise of spring in every inhale. The carpet of leaves is a symphony of hues: golden brown, blending with warm honey, grey, bronze and copper.
This painting captures the essence of those first crocuses, brave souls emerging after a long winter. No matter how weary or low we may feel, there is a tenacity within us, a force that propels us to rise again. Like those resilient crocuses, we too have the strength to bloom anew, no matter the chill that may surround us.
May it bring warmth and hope to your heart as it does to mine.
